I received my PhD from the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2012. Prior to that, I graduated cum laude from the University of Maryland at College Park with a degree in cell molecular biology and genetics.

I have mentored students at the high school level and in college in various subjects, including math, chemistry, and biology, but feel most comfortable in biological science related material. As an undergraduate, I spent two years as a peer mentor and volunteer tutor for the university. While in graduate school, I worked as both a teaching assistant for medical microbiology, as well as a mentor for numerous undergraduate and graduate students throughout my dissertation work. I enjoy teaching and helping others develop an appreciation for science and hope one day to teach at the college level. I cater my teaching style to the needs of the individual and try to make it as fun and entertaining, while still learning, as possible.

Please let me know if I can be of help and I look forward to working with you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Genetics

As an undergraduate, I received a degree in cell molecular biology and genetics. In addition, I also have a PhD in microbiology and immunology and have peer reviewed published work in the field. Lastly, I currently work for a company that studies human autoimmune diseases that requires a vast understanding of human genetics.
