My name is Kathryn and I am originally from Denver, Colorado. I attended the University of Arizona where I received two majors in Marketing and Entrepreneurship and earned a degree in Business Administration. I am now applying to grad schools to receive my masters in teaching secondary mathematics. My original major in college was Math Education, and I switched to business my Freshmen year. After working in the marketing field, I quickly realized that my passion lies in the classroom teaching mathematics.
I have successfully completed all math classes from Pre-Algebra, to Geometry, to Calculus I and II, and up to Linear Algebra. I have successfully tutored students in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and Geometry in the past three years. In college I spent one semester in a 9th grade Algebra classroom assisting the teacher. I have spent the past four months volunteering in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math classes at Good Shepherd Catholic school assisting the teacher and working one on one with the students. I am also a licensed substitute teacher in the state of Colorado. My tutoring approach begins with exploring what the student knows, what they are struggling with, and how they think about mathematics when they approach a new problem. I think understanding how they approach mathematics is the key to better explaining the topic and helping them overcome their struggles.
