I recently moved to Seattle for film school and to also utilize my language/teaching credentials. I hold BA degrees in Psychology and Spanish from the University of Southern Mississippi and TEFL/TESOL certification from a Costa Rican institute called Máximo Nivel.

As part of my Spanish degree I was able to attend a university in Spain (Alcalá de Henares) for a semester, gaining the benefits of full language and cultural immersion. I took various classes there, two in particular focusing on advanced language study. At my home university I completed classes on grammar, writing, cultures & civilizations, and even the culinary arts.

My TEFL/TESOL certification consisted of an intensive, four-week course including modules covering lesson planning, class management, grammar, vocabulary, writing, test assessment, and other relevant language sectors. As part of our final requirement, I was able to gain hands-on experience teaching daily, one-hour classes to Costa Rican students.

I am open to tutoring in any particular sector of Spanish or English as second languages. I try to be flexible with time, and while I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, the lesson for a cancelled class may be moved to the next meeting time. Class schedules are constructed around student needs, but, as I am currently a student as well, my schedule does vary. Send me a message and we can discuss meeting times and details.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

While I do not hold a state teaching license, I have had experience with elementary children in an academic setting. During my college years at the University of Southern Mississippi, I volunteered as a mentor/tutor for a third grader through Big Brothers Big Sisters, helping specifically with Math and English. I have also worked as a Lead Group Writer at Mississippi State University's Summer Scholars Onstage Camp for the past four years, guiding groups of adolescents to compose an original act of a 3-act musical. I hold B.A. degrees in Psychology and Spanish, and a TEFL/TESOL certificate to teach English as a Second Language.

ESL/ESOL

I gained my TEFL/TESOL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language / Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certification in 2013 through an intensive program within Máximo Nivel in Costa Rica. The program included modules covering lesson planning, class management, grammar, vocabulary, writing, test assessment, and other relevant language sectors. The last week of training required running our own classes independently, teaching to Costa Rican students of various ages.

Spanish

I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from the University of Southern Mississippi. During my program, I spent a semester as an exchange student at the Universidad de Alcalá de Henares in Spain, taking various courses taught in Spanish and also an extra one specifically on the language's grammar and usage. Since then, I have taught three students on WyzAnt several lessons in pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, etc.
