Hi everyone!

My name is Stephanie, and I graduated from Stanford University in 2013 with a bachelor of science in science, technology, and society. I am currently a medical student at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

For the past 10 years, I have taught students of all ages and backgrounds, including those with disabilities and special needs, and am flexible, patient, and resourceful. As well, I served as the head teaching assistant for one of Stanford's largest and most popular classes, and have been a staff writer for numerous magazines, newspapers, and the Stanford University News Service.

Talk to me about:

1. College admissions and SAT Prep
My expertise includes everything from choosing the right schools, applying for scholarships, to crafting a winning essay from start to finish. Having scored 800 on the SAT Critical Reading section and a composite of 2360/2400, I can also provide comprehensive test prep support to those aiming for a high score and have a unique approach to the critical reading section that consistently yields major score increases. Thus, I feel confident in my ability to assist high school students with the competitive college application process.

2. Language tutoring
I am a native Mandarin speaker, and am very comfortable working with beginners all the way up to those who can speak well but want to improve their vocabulary and reading skills. In addition, I have a lot of experience working with ESL learners of all levels, and feel confident in my ability to teach English in a fun, engaging way.

3. Subject tutoring
I can tutor a variety of elementary, middle, and high school subjects with mastery. I believe in teaching my students to be independent, responsible, and creative thinkers. I will not feed them the answer, but give them the tools and confidence to seek out the answers and then ask questions about the process.

My preferred tutoring region is in Green Lake, although I can travel as needed. Contact me today to discuss your needs, and I will do my best to help you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chinese

I am a native Mandarin speaker and spent my childhood in Taiwan. There, I learned Chinese in school. I am a fluent speaker and can read and write at a high level. I also have extensive experience translating and tutoring Chinese in various clinical and peer education settings.

College Counseling

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree from Stanford University, and was also accepted to Northwestern University and the University of Southern California when I applied to college as a high school senior four years ago. I am very knowledgeable about the college application process and can advise students on topics including the Common Application, the UC System Application, FAFSA/CSS, scholarships, and private school supplemental essays. With this knowledge, I have mentored more than 10 students and helped guide them through the competitive college application process. In addition, I am a big believer in finding the right schools for each student, and putting together a customized list of schools based on every student's grades, test scores, activities, and interests. I also provide support in brainstorming and editing essays, writing compelling activity descriptions, and seeking out enrichment activities or experiences.

Stephanie is a genius — Stephanie is an amazing tutor. My daughter got her SAT score yesterday on June 26. Before working with Stephanie, my daughter spent her previous summer going to SAT classes. After spending the whole summer working on their strategies to raise her score, the result was very disappointing. Her score dropped from 1900 to 1830. Fortunately, we had the chance to meet Stephanie through WyzAnt. After onl ...
