I have lived abroad quite a few years in Brazil, Mexico and Germany. I personally feel that learning a second language is one of the greatest adventures to be had and having taken that journey myself several times I understand some of the problems facing the second language learner. My own parents having immigrated from Slovenia to California. From my earliest youth sitting at the dinner table I can recall helping my parents repeat and learn new words and phrases. After retiring from 27 years of clinical practice as a licensed psychologist in California I earned a 60 hour certificate in TEFL and engaged in volunteer ESL teaching in California.
There is no secret to learning a second language, just practice speaking, reading and writing each day, allowing one's self to make mistakes and engaging the language with passion.
