Hello!

My name is Paul and I'm a tutor and mentor. I've been working with kids now for some time now with work at John Muir Elementary and Green Lake Elementary. I've also taught a Philosophy for Children segment for 1st grade students at John Muir Elementary in conjunction with the University of Washington's Pipeline program. At Green Lake Elementary, my methods were more traditional as I was responsible for helping children from Kindergarten to 5th grade with their Math, Science, and Literature homework. I am currently a graduate of the University of Washington where I studied Psychology with an emphasis on Meditation and Mindfulness applications.

At the University I wore several hats. From working in accredited Psychology labs to studying Spanish in Leon, Spain for four months, I've done my fair share of work (and play). I have always loved working with children and am grateful to have the opportunity to be a positive role model in their lives. My life's work is defined by my ability to authentically connect with others and guide them in whatever ways possible. Though I excel in tutoring children and young adults in their school life, I have also spent a lot of my adult life cultivating a deep sense of gratitude and understanding of the things we all go through in life. Because of that, I am also willing to provide mentorship and leadership to my students. I am not only here to strictly help with their studies, I am here to be a friend and mirror for their self development.

I look forward to any opportunity to help!
Thank you for your time.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

When I worked at John Muir Elementary in Seattle, I taught in a special class room with children ranging from the mentally challenged, to those with ADD/ADHD, to those that were above and beyond their grade level. I also am very patient and willing to approach the students at their level.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am qualified to tutor in this area because I have about a year of experience already doing so. I tutored at two separate elementary schools in the area during my final year at the University of Washington. I am very good at working with children and am very qualified to teach the material.

Phonics

Simply put, I am an exceptional reader and have a keen ability to read by using the phonetic system. This is the way I learned growing up and it has become second nature in my teaching. I am also a spoken word poetry artist, and phonetics is an incredibly important facet of my art.
