I have many years' experience as a teacher and tutor. My five college degrees are in several different disciplines, and all are a result of my love of learning and of helping others to develop that same love in themselves.

Tutoring is in many ways the ideal situation for a student, because the tutor is able to tailor the curriculum precisely to the student's own particular needs. The first important thing about taking on a new student is the discovery not just of the student's (and, probably, his or her parents') goals but of how best the student learns. This may take the form of a conversation, more direct questions and answers, or perhaps even drawing pictures or playing games. Listening is, of course, vital for the student, but it is no less important for the tutor.

Drums

I took private drum and percussion lessons for ten years. I have experience playing percussion in various bands and for musical theatre productions. I have also studied music theory for many years and have given my own lessons.

Greek

I have an advanced degree in Greek, and a Ph. D. in philosophy, my dissertation having been written on Aristotelian metaphysics. I went through Berkeley's summer intensive Greek program, where I fared very well. I have been a part of numerous ancient philosophy and ancient Greek seminars, reading groups etc., where a knowledge of Greek is indispensable.

Linear Algebra

I have a degree in physics, where linear algebra is often used, especially in quantum theory. I have also studied mathematics since graduating in physics, and algebra has remained one of my best subjects. My understanding of group theory, ring theory etc. fits easily with my study of different logical systems.

Logic

I have a Ph. D. in philosophy and so have studied logic both conceptually and historically. I also have a good deal of training in mathematics and so have approached logic from that direction, too. I have taught several courses in logic and critical reasoning at the college level.

SAT Math

Perfect 80 on the PSAT Math, 750 on the SAT Math, perfect 800 on the GRE Math!

I have studied math my whole life!

TOEFL

I have degrees in two foreign languages, and have studied many others both formally and informally. My interest in logic translates well into an interest in grammar, and my study of ancient languages has stimulated an interest in etymology as well. I have also traveled and lived abroad.
