I have enjoyed the experience of many years of teaching English as a second language to adults and children in Japan.
I creatively customized lesson material for the private students to help bring their interest into the learning project.
I found using pictures to be good way to encourage a student who is practicing conversation to uniquely describe the the action or make a story out of the picture in their own words. I also used small miniature objects to create role play examples of useful vocabulary in practice conversations. This method of holding objects, which is the basic tenet of the Montessori teaching method, can also be used to help young children reinforce and accelerate their reading and writing skills. I am a published author and can teach foreign students how to proof read and edit their work to express themselves clearly in English. I also enjoy encouraging young children to creatively express themselves in writing.
It is my opinion that the teacher's job is to help the student get needed basic skills and concepts with the goal of making him or her not afraid to ask more questions and then become a student who will keep on learning with ability to acquire more skills and knowledge when the teacher is not present. I look forward to working with you to help you get a confident start in the very important basic applications of reading and writing in English.
