Hello, my name is Astrid and I love to teach! There is nothing more rewarding to me that being able to see the "light bulb" go off when a student learns something new. My passion is teaching and training!
I teach English and Spanish for survival conversation as well as for workplace advancement. I have been teaching ESL to students of various cultural and educational backgrounds for over 5 years. I have taught Spanish grammar and usage to English speakers for 3 years. I enjoy teaching language and I enjoy finding new and creative ways to help anyone understand the most complex rules of languages. I always strive to present the information in a personalized way that allows the individual student to learn in the best way possible for him or her. I am patient, yet firm. I believe that any language must be learned through diligence and hard work. That being said, I also believe that "fun" is necessary to most students' learning processes. I expect discipline while remaining flexibly creative.
When I teach a language, I start at the beginning. I teach grammar along with conversation. I believe that a strong grammar base will allow for easier creative conversation improvisations. I am thorough and clear about the rules of language. I will always have 3-5 different ways of presenting information so that all students will be able to gain a firm grasp of the concepts I teach. Language is the beginning of community understanding. The more we understand one another, the less conflict we will see.
I have also been singing my entire life. I have a keen ear to subtleties. I am able to hear a flaw or a raw skill and explain clearly what a student could do to avoid the flaw or to fine tune the raw skill. I am skilled in solo and choral styles. I am capable of singing high end bass, tenor, alto and soprano. I teach for sound quality first. Creative style second. I love music and I am able to teach all levels--from apparent tone-deaf to "take me to the next step". I have had many students in the past tell me that they wish they could sing. They were able to sing in a much shorter time than they had expected. I have had many acquaintances who asked me to help them polish for performances. Whether you need to start at the beginning or you just need a little edge on the competition, I can help you.
I am available for beginner and intermediate piano instruction. I taught piano for 6 years to adults. I am able and willing to tutor children over age 10. (Exceptions could be made depending upon circumstance.) I currently do not own a piano, so any students would need to have their own.
Please see my profile for other information about the other subjects I am available for.
