My name is Jerry, and I can work with you to achieve your goals.

I have an undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania and hold both a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Washington.

I am retired from Bellevue College (formerly Bellevue Community College). I taught there from 1993 to 2009. I was on the Social Science faculty, where I generally taught Sociology. Also, I developed and taught courses in American Studies, and I taught in the Psychology program. In addition, I taught both Statistical Analysis and Introduction to Computers and Applications in the Business Division.

I have also taught younger students (4th to 8th grades) in supplementary schools. I have also worked as a volunteer tutor in the Seattle school district, working with middle school students on reading and study skills.

I try to create an atmosphere in which students become eager to learn, not simply to get a grade but to develop their minds and imaginations.

American History

American history has always been a focus for me. I enjoy learning it and enjoy teaching it even more. I have found that relating history to the lives we are living today makes learning more enjoyable and more meaningful. I have created a course that focuses on American urban history and another on American Jewish history. I have read extensively in American history, especially as it relates to my own work in sociology, specifically race and ethnicity in America.

I have taught Hebrew to young students for a number of years. I have taught at several supplementary Hebrew schools in and around Seattle ranging from 4th grade to 9th grade students. Most of my teaching has focused on prayer book Hebrew, but I have also taught conversational Hebrew. I have also developed a course in conversational Hebrew. My focus is on reading and writing Hebrew, although some speaking is included.

I am a retired instructor in Sociology (and other courses) from Bellevue College, and my time is very flexible. Please let me know if I can help.

Social Studies

I have an undergraduate degree in political science and graduate degrees in sociology. My work has also led me into the areas of history, geography, and even psychology. I have even taught anthropology. When I was in grade school and high school, social studies were always my favorite area of study. I try to create an atmosphere in which each student gets absorbed in the subject matter. Once that is achieved, learning becomes enjoyable.

I have a doctorate in sociology and taught for more than 20 years at the college level. I have taught introductory classes, race and ethnicity, social problems, deviance, and research methods as well as statistical analysis. I have also worked with students at many levels from 4th grade through graduate school students.

I have taught statistics from introductory stats in community colleges to graduate school level (multiple regression and multivariate analysis) for more than 20 years. I have also tutored in this field for different levels of students. My educational background includes certification in methodology and statistics for my doctoral program in Sociology at the University of Washington. I have also developed and taught a course in Research Methods at Bellevue College.

I taught Sociology (and other subjects) at the college level for more than 20 years, and I always included a writing element in my classes. I graded student performance on a variety of scales including spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, and sentence structure.

In addition, I spent several years working as a news reporter and broadcaster in radio. That position put an emphasis on writing concisely and clearly.
