Hello, my name is Shelby, and I am a freelance writer and tutor living in Seattle, Washignton. I have experience working with college-level adult students in creative writing, test preparation or reading comprehension. I have also worked with international students and can help with general language skills. I have also taught young children in phonics and reading.

I majored in creative writing at Seattle Pacific University, and I studied literature at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. Writing is something that I am very passionate about and a craft that I love to share with others. Even if you are not in school, but have a writing project that you have been meaning to get to, let me help you make it happen. Having spent extensive time in writing workshops, I know how helpful it can be to get feedback. I just finished a writer's residency in Germany where I was working on a collection of prose essays, so I am very familiar with the ups and downs of the creative process.

My approach to tutoring is to make sure the student feels comfortable and at ease so that their personal strengths are emphasized while their limitations are expanded.

I look forward to hearing from you!

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Study Skills

I have extensive experience teaching study skills through private tutoring, and also as a professional tutor at a community college where I worked primarily with international students on reading, writing, test preparation and conversation skills.
