My goal as your composition teacher is to help you find and realize your own musical voice, and to assist you in developing your technique so that what you imagine in your head is what you communicate to performers and ultimately your audience. I also will assist you in locating opportunities and navigating the music world. As a young professional composer it is my passion to help you achieve your dreams.
A good understanding of music theory is essential for composers and performers alike. I will give you the head start you need to excel in college theory classes or help you brush up on theory so that you can better appreciate the music you play and/or listen to.
Technological literacy in music is a must these days. Whether simply notating a score in Sibelius or synthesizing sounds from scratch in SuperCollider, I can help you locate the tools you need and get you on your way to achieving your goals with music technology.
I work with all ages and all levels of proficiency. I am passionate about working with beginners--I believe we all have an inherent sense of musicality just waiting to be tapped into!
I have over a decade of experience in music composition, theory and electronic music. My music has been featured on NPR and on the front page of the Seattle Times. I have studied privately with renowned composers including Bright Sheng, Michael Daugherty, Richard Karpen, and Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon.
