Hello!

My specialty is working with children and adults who experience learning challenges, including learning disabilities such as dyslexia, ADHD, language and motor delays. I bring over 15 years experience as an educational therapist, helping students not only learn material, but learn how to use their learning strengths to develop study strategies. With the right tools and approaches, learning can be fun!

Additionally, I am a Washington State certified teacher with endorsements in Elementary Education and Middle Level Mathematics, with several years experience substituting in grades 3 - 12, as well as 3 years as a classroom teacher.

I am available to tutor in Port Townsend and over Skype and/or Google Video Chat.

Algebra 1

In addition to tutoring students with learning challenges for over 15 years, I worked three years assisting in high school math classes. I recently added a Middle Level Math Endorsement (4th - 9th) to my Washington State teacher certification.

Biology

I thoroughly enjoyed my college Biology, Microbiology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Chemistry courses. As part of learning biology, I assist students to develop study strategies that they can use for other content area courses.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been working for over 15 years with elementary age students, individually, in small groups, and in classroom settings, both public and private. I hold a current Washington State teacher certificate with Elementary Ed (K-8) and Middle Level Mathematics (4 - 9) endorsements. I have taught 5th and 6th grades for three years, as well as substituted for several years.

Study Skills

I have been working for over 15 years with students of all ages and learning profiles, to build organization skills. Organizational skills involve using self-language strategically, as well as spatial and visualization skills. Together, we build an individualized Daily Check-In and develop a personal scale to keep on top of daily tasks. Students develop a set of questions to help guide their thinking so they can become proficient at tracking time, papers, and tasks.

ADD/ADHD

I support learning for students who have ADD/ADHD in multiple ways. I assist students in personalizing various study strategies so that they can pick out and focus on what is important in the information at hand--necessary to form accurate memories for the information they will need to recall later. We use multi-sensory routes and cognitive training strategies to help students use their strengths to organize themselves in time and space.

Aspergers

I support learning for students who have an Aspergers profile in multiple ways. Dyslexia

I have over fifteen years working with students--children and adults-- who have a dyslexic learning profile. I have specialized, multi-sensory instructional routes that decrease directional confusion, increase reading and writing fluency, improve spelling accuracy, build language skills such as reading comprehension and writing structure. Students develop cognitive strategies for success in academics and life.

Praxis

In addition to working with individuals who experience testing anxiety and/or learning differences, I have taken and passed several PRAXIS exams. I assist students in sorting out what they know from what they don't know when studying strategically for tests.

How do I receive a discount?

Save between 5 and 15% on tutoring by purchasing credit with one of our prepaid discount packages. You can buy one of our standard 5, 10 or 15% packages or customize your own package based on how much tutoring you need. The credit you purchase can be used towards any tutor at any time and does not expire. If you do not use the entire package, we will simply deduct what you did spend on tutoring from your original purchase price and give you a refund. Discount packages start as low as $190.
