I graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo with a B.S. in Biochemistry. Excelling in everything from Biology to Calculus I was offered a position to teach an undergraduate Biology Lab for a few semesters. There I learned there was more to teaching than understanding the material and teaching verbatim from the text. While having knowledge about a particular subject is important, it is worth nothing if you cannot connect with you/your student. Making connections to everyday life, such as incorporating current events into the lesson plan is just one way I try to encourage the importance of science and math. In addition, being able to look at a situation and be able to explain it in multiple ways is a valuable tutoring technique I try to practice. I understand that everyone has a different way of learning.

In high school I graduated as a scholar athlete, having taken rigorous course work in AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus, and AP History, scoring 4's and 5's and earning college credit for those classes.

Understand that the first step toward making progress in a difficult subject is making a connection and wanting to learn the material. Hopefully my practices and techniques will enable you/your student to make that connection.
