Looking for a great French tutor for your elementary, middle, or high school student? Want to improve your French to meet specific goals? I love French and I would love to work with you.
Who am I? I am a first year French Linguistics PhD Student at UC Davis. I have been studying French for over a decade and when speaking French, most people assume that I’m from that beautiful country. This past year, I worked in France as a language and culture teacher to take a little break from academia before diving in to graduate school! In 2013, I graduated from the University of Washington with a French BA, Photography BFA, and a Concentration in Education.
Language and linguistics are a passion of mine. I have over 4 years of intensive language teaching experience. While donning many different hats and titles - Private French Tutor, Advanced French Instructor: Canoe Island French Camp, French Immersion Teacher: Language Link LLC, Founder and President of the UW French Club, French Preschool Volunteer, ESL Tutor, Language Assistant – my goal is the same. I want to share my love for the French language and culture and inspire this in my students in a way that fits their needs and learning styles.
I have worked with toddlers to grannies and know that the same approach doesn't work for everyone. As an artist, I love finding creative ways to learn things rather than dull rote-memorization (though I’ll admit that French grammar is a tricky beast). I've had breakthroughs with students using songs to conjugate verbs and a myriad of color-coding to reveal the intricacies of direct and indirect objects.
My greatest happiness lies in the successes of my students: one whose grades improved and turned French from her hated subject to her favorite one and another whose parents reported their daughter dancing around the house singing French songs. I think my voracity to learn, non-judgmental sensibility and creative energy are my greatest assets as a teacher.
At the end of the day, I want to make sure that my students and I are a good fit. If you have questions, please feel free to ask. I've found it very helpful to meet new students for an hour to work and talk about goals is a great way to gauge this. Hope to hear from you soon!
