Hi! My name is Gareth, and I'm a TEFL-certified tutor. I teach English as a Second/Foreign language. I'm 25 years old. I've lived in England, Australia, Southeast Asia, India and here in the USA. I enjoying teaching all ages, and I can help you brush up on your English from any level--beginner, intermediate or advanced.
I recently spent a few months in Bangkok, Thailand, teaching English to Thai adults and children. I have worked in various classrooms of 40 children, 20 adults, 10 native English speakers (advanced lessons), and I have done one-on-one tutoring sessions. I love language and teaching, and I always find that my students are, in fact, teaching me. I believe in adapting the teaching method to fit the situation. Playing educational games and other interactive activities are often a fun and effective way to learn language. Some repetition of pronunciation and the written word is also helpful in many situations, but there are many interesting ways to approach this as well (learning a language never has to be boring!).
As far as my own working methods, I believe it is always necessary to prepare a detailed, personal lesson plan for the student and to be ready to modify or abandon it if the lesson needs to go in a different direction (preparation + flexibility). I am always on time, enthusiastic and ready to work, and I expect the same from my students. Education is effective and fun when there is effort and commitment from both sides.
