Hello, I am from Beijing, China. I have a Bachelor's degree from the University of International Business and Economics, a top ranking university in China, and I have been in the US since 2009. I currently work as an interpreter. I speak standard Chinese Mandarin, and I taught English in China before coming to the States, where I now teach my American friends Chinese, too. I know the differences between English and Chinese well enough that I will always be able to explain well and get my students to understand better when a problem occurs.
When I was in Beijing, I was a tutor for the American exchange students in my university with The Beijing Center program. My students were sophomore and senior students from Saint Louis University (MO) and Loyola University (MD). They were beginner level. We practiced Chinese speaking and reading -- the practical, everyday, daily Chinese people would actually encounter in China. When the semester ended, they were able to communicate in basic Chinese (e.g., shopping, ordering in a restaurant, traveling) with no problem.
So, if you are interested in learning Chinese Mandarin, whether spoken or written, I will do a great job to make sure you get there without too much frustration. China is a beautiful place to visit, and the culture always has something amazing to offer.
