I feel like I would be a great candidate for you because of my passion for education, as well as my experience in education. I have four years of teaching and tutoring experience with a wide range of grades and students. I student taught in a first grade class, as well as in a first/second grade split class. I am currently teaching a first/second/third grade split class as a long term substitute until June 2012. Additionally, I am currently teaching ESL for Renton Technical College three nights a week.
I obtained my Masters Degree in Education with a focus in Reading and Literacy from City University. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and an endorsement in Early Childhood Education from Central Washington University.
My experience is in teaching and developing culturally competent curriculum. My academic preparation in Constructivist practices, knowledge of instructional technology, and experience with providing individualized instruction demonstrate my commitment as an educator. Teaching has been the best career I could have ever had, and I enjoy it and respect it both equally. I have learned as much from my students as I believe they have learned from me. I have three years of teaching experience not including my two student teaching experiences.
I have worked with a variety of learning styles and abilities as a long term substitute in a Montessori school, an English as a Second Language instructor for Renton Technical College, an after school teacher, a G.E.D instructor, a pre-school teacher, a student teacher, a Club Z Tutor, and a tutor with Literacy in the Community. Through this experience, I have collaborated with special and general education teachers to ensure that my students’ needs are met. I am intentional about the learning opportunities and groupings that I use with my students and incorporate a variety of instructional strategies to ensure that all students are successful. My instruction is differentiated in order to meet the needs of each individual, as I provide them with opportunities for enrichment, reinforcement, and remediation. I am dedicated and tenacious, and think outside the box when it comes to implementing new strategies to meet my student’s needs. I value working collaboratively and sharing ideas with my team. I am also great with working by myself as needed.
As an Education Specialist I helped to redesign the education department in all facets. I was in charge of recruiting new volunteers and doing intake paperwork with students. I also made up the new "perfect file" which MSC uses for the education department. Finding training opportunities were also under my command. I also educated and trained new volunteers in the ways of Adult Basic Education, General Education Degree, and English as a Second Language.
My personal favorite subject to teach is math. I used to struggle with it as a student, so I love teaching it now to help other students overcome that anxiety. I love teaching reading and writing as well. Social studies is so much fun to teach in a classroom, as is science -- especially when it is done through inquiry. I love combining and teaching cross curriculum in the classroom as much as possible as well.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
