My name is Geoffrey B. and I'm from Connecticut. I've graduated from Clark University in Massachusetts with a Bachelor's in Philosophy with Honors and a Master's degree in Teaching. For two years I taught 11th and 12th grade social studies in Connecticut. In all, I taught civics, economics, sociology, contemporary issues, and US history. Following that, I moved to Seattle and taught Buddhism and meditation while serving a temple for a couple years. I have a deep passion for journeying through the world of knowledge with kids, and seeing what kind of personal enrichment and fulfillment can ripen.
I truly love the humanities and social sciences. In particular, I truly love to explore the world of writing and experimenting with new means of expression. I know most kids find writing incredibly frustrating. A lot of the skills expected of them are seldom directly taught, and when it is, it is often according to a format presented to a class en masse. I think true growth in writing happens from intensive one-on-one interaction, revision, and discussion so that a student can walk away confident enough to explain good writing techniques to someone else. In addition to writing, I am available for tutoring in social studies and reading. If you'd like tutoring in English or another social science, please contact me.
I would love to meet you to discuss what needs you and your student have and what areas you would like to work on. It would be my pleasure to help your student find his/her voice.
