Hi! My name is Shewet and I am a WyzAnt tutor. I have completed my college studies and hold a Bachelor of Arts degree. I am also a graduate student in a Master of Arts degree though I am taking time off from current studies. Here is a brief overview of my previous tutoring experiences and my tutoring philosophy:
I have been a professional tutor at Showalter Middle School and Foster High School, both schools in the Tukwila School District. This position was a paid position. I tutored 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students. I tutored everything from mathematics, social studies, reading help, writing help and editing. As a part of this position for the Tukwila School District, I was also a "mentor" which meant that I would also encourage learning and education to the younger students, being in college myself at that time.
I have also been a volunteer tutor in the King County Library System. As a requirement for the position, I needed to be punctual and effective, regardless of the position being a volunteer position, which I did. I assisted elementary, middle school, high school, college, and graduate students with their homework. I tutored specifically in the fields of mathematics, reading help, writing help and editing, fostering critical discussions with students, and help with resume and cover letter writing.
With regards to my philosophy of tutoring, I believe that tutoring is a position which helps mentor and guide the student within the field of inquiry. I help re-articulate and reformulate the question into other words and allow the student to see the question in a more simplified way. I also guide the train of thought in a way which sees the problem vividly and that can bring the student, through his own critical faculties, to the desired answer. In short, I help the student encounter the answer; I by no means give the answer because it will rob the student of intelligence and persistence in hard work.
Thank you for reading.
