I love teaching children & have a true "passion" for it. I graduated from The University of Washington with a BA in History/Education. I have taken additional coursework for grades K-8 at Seattle Pacific University. I also have an art degree from The Art Institute of Seattle. Recently, I completed my degree in Early Childhood Education.
I have taught at the Primary grade level, and have also created and implemented the curriculum for 4 and 5 year old's for Kindergarten readiness. I have also created and implemented many art projects for Pre-K and Primary age students. At the Primary level I have been a reading specialist, and have worked with students on their reading and writing skills. Kindergarten readiness is an important factor for children entering formal school. I have taught phonics, number recognition, writing skills, dexterity skills and critical thinking to young children entering Kindergarten. It is exciting to hear about how well my former students are doing after being prepared for the next step.
I believe in the ability to use clear communication techniques and to create a happy, caring, and stimulating learning environment. I foster a child's appetite for learning by teaching children how to listen, guide students with positive feedback, and delegate tasks to build self-confidence and creativity. I employ a variety of teaching methods designed to capture student's interests and maximize individual learning. I believe that as a teacher, I must instill confidence in children with learning differences and those with multi-cultural and multi-linguistic backgrounds. For younger children I believe in hands-on learning utilizing play, and interactive activities, to develop language and vocabulary.
My personal interests are my three children, yoga, traveling, reading, writing, and photography.
