I am an lifelong artist with extensive formal Art Education at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY; California College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland, CA and Cornish Institute, Seattle WA; leading to a BFA in Graphic Design, specializing in Illustration. Primarily I love to draw: pen and ink, colored pencil, graphite - almost all media. I decided while at Cornish that I would love to illustrate Children's Books. After I graduated, I was referred to a local Publisher who needed an artist to do a cover illustration, which I happily did. That led to a series of Children's Books, developed by the same publisher. She shared my name and contact with another publisher who I began working with also. In all, I executed over 2 dozen Children's Books over the next 6 years. My experience is in working directly with publishers and with authors.
In the meanwhile, I also was working for a wholesale Art Manufacturer and got multiple opportunities to do commissioned artwork thru that company for large Corporate accounts. So I painted murals, made handmade paper abstracts, original paintings and developed multimedia art projects. I became that Companies National Product Designer and mentored numerous regional artists, to help them develop exclusive artwork that they could execute in multiples for this Manufacturer to sell to Furniture Stores and Interior Designers for both residential and corporate use. I am Highly Skilled in customizing the framed presentation of artwork, as that is SO VERY important in how the whole artwork is perceived, and in what setting it is being placed.
Recently, I decided to enroll in the University of Washington Extension 9 month Professional Certificate Program in Natural Science Illustration. I loved it! I studied and learned to execute very detailed scientifically accurate artwork in subjects ranging from Botanical, Zoological and Anthropological. I completed that program in Summer 2009.I have also taken several week long workshops in Colored Pencil with the North Cascades Institute and an "Art For the Animals" multimedia workshop with Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, in Kanab, Utah.
