I am available via email to proofread and/or edit your academic papers, application essays (i.e. graduate or professional school), or other writing assignments. I have extensive experience as an academic writer and as a college writing instructor. I received my PhD in History at UC Berkeley in 2012.

Here's how I work: students send me their drafts as Microsoft Word files via email, along with any assignment sheets from instructors. I use the "track changes" and "comments" functions in Word to improve your writing in terms of grammar, syntax, diction, and organization. Depending on the level of help you would like, I can make more extensive and substantive comments on your work. Ideally, as you read my comments and accept my suggested changes, you will start to recognize patterns in your writing that can be improved in your future assignments. This process can be repeated through multiple drafts or with successive assignments to maximize your learning.

Policies: There is a minimum one-hour charge for all assignments. Please be aware that I will not ghostwrite your paper for you. That is cheating, which is both unethical and could expose you to severe academic penalties, including expulsion. I can help you, but you must do the work. Please also note that I cannot offer tutoring for courses at the University of Washington because I am an employee.

Thanks!

Sociology

Having studied European intellectual history, I am familiar with the major figures in the history of the discipline (August Comte, Emile Durkheim, Max Weber, etc.). I also studied the sociological contributions of the Frankfurt School (Horkheimer, Adorno, Habermas) in detail while writing my dissertation.

Highly recommended! Smart, with a sharp eye for detail. Nick offers a critical eye to my papers, questioning areas that need clarifying, alerting me to spelling and grammatical concerns, and offering perspective as he looks at the paper as a whole, to ensure that it is well stated and supported. He is bright, honest, and supportive, and I take his thoughts and suggestions seriously. An excellent tutor! ...
