IMPORTANT NOTE: My fall schedule is full. I am currently accepting clients for summer tutoring only. Thanks for your understanding.

I have over ten years of experience in education, primarily in one-on-one tutoring and teaching in small group settings. I have excellent skills in a wide variety of academic areas, but my favorite subjects to help students with are algebra, geometry, chemistry, and biology.

I have extensive experience working with students who have ADHD, learning disabilities, Asperger's Syndrome, and other special needs. I am comfortable with a wide variety of learning styles and personalities. I work well with very bright students who require a teacher that is flexible and can match their intelligence without being overbearing. My experiences include helping students develop remedial skills in areas such as spelling, grammar, writing, organization, test-taking skills, and time management. I also have some experience in standardized test preparation. I most enjoy working with high school students, but I have experience working with students from 4th grade through adults.

I like helping students tackle complicated subject matter by breaking it down into smaller steps. My goal is to help them find problem-solving methods that are intuitive for them. Helping my students build confidence in their ability to achieve academic success is a high priority for me. It's not enough just to teach them the subject matter; I want them to believe in their ability to learn.

ADD/ADHD

I have six years of experience working at a private school that specializes in students with ADD/ADHD. Also, ADD runs in my family and I am very personally knowledgeable about it. I look forward to helping you or your student.

Algebra 1

I have extensive experience helping students with Algebra I. Much of my six years working at a private school was spent teaching Algebra I to small groups of high school students.

Aspergers

In my experience as a tutor and private high school teacher, I have worked with many students with Aspergers and high-functioning autism. I have a patient, tolerant approach and am comfortable working with a wide variety of personalities.

Biology

I have extensive experience helping students with biology. Most of my experience is in teaching high school biology, but I would also be happy to help students with introductory college biology as well.

Ear Training

I have a Bachelor's degree in Music. As an undergrad, I worked as a tutor helping other music students with music theory and ear training. I also play the piano well enough to play simple ear training exercises.

Reading

As a teacher at a private school, I helped high school students improve their reading skills. Most of my experience is with students who were already reading at about a 3rd grade level or above, so if your student needs more basic reading help than that, I may not be the best match for you.

Sight Singing

I have a Bachelor's degree in music. While completing my undergrad coursework, I worked as a tutor for the School of Music helping my fellow students in a variety of areas, including sight-singing. I am a vocalist myself and am a very good sight-singer.

Special Needs

I have extensive experience working with students who have a variety of special needs including ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, auditory processing disorders, high-functioning autism, speech disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, social anxiety, and school avoidance.

Study Skills

I have six years of experience working at a private school that specializes in ADHD/ADD and learning disabilities. My experience includes helping students develop remedial skills in areas such as spelling, grammar, writing, organization, test-taking, and time management.
