I have over ten years of experience in education, primarily in one-on-one tutoring and teaching in small group settings. I have excellent skills in a wide variety of academic areas, but my favorite subjects to help students with are algebra, geometry, chemistry, and biology.
I have extensive experience working with students who have ADHD, learning disabilities, Asperger's Syndrome, and other special needs. I am comfortable with a wide variety of learning styles and personalities. I work well with very bright students who require a teacher that is flexible and can match their intelligence without being overbearing. My experiences include helping students develop remedial skills in areas such as spelling, grammar, writing, organization, test-taking skills, and time management. I also have some experience in standardized test preparation. I most enjoy working with high school students, but I have experience working with students from 4th grade through adults.
I like helping students tackle complicated subject matter by breaking it down into smaller steps. My goal is to help them find problem-solving methods that are intuitive for them. Helping my students build confidence in their ability to achieve academic success is a high priority for me. It's not enough just to teach them the subject matter; I want them to believe in their ability to learn.
