I am a PhD student in the math department at the University of Washington. My knowledge of grade school, high school, and university level mathematics is deep, and it's my pleasure to help other students to understand and get excited about mathematics at any level.

I am calm, patient, and personable. Perhaps my greatest strength as a math tutor is that I understand that students are often taught math in school without being presented the intuition behind the formal mathematical symbols and formulas; therefore, I stress the intuition behind mathematics. Not only does this help students understand math better and improve their capacity for creative problem solving, but it also increases their enjoyment for the subject.

In addition to my success as a tutor, I have also enjoyed a lot of personal success in math. Most notably, I was awarded a prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship, a competitive annual award that goes to about 300 of the nation's brightest and most promising undergraduate students in math and science. I also have a strong track record in mathematics competitions at the high school and university level. In fact, I consider this another great asset of mine as a tutor: the "tips and tricks" that I have learned through math competitions will prove useful for any high school or university math student.

Discrete Math

I majored in math in college and am currently a graduate student. I have taken a number of courses in discrete math, including courses in Logic, Combinatorics, Probability, and Set Theory. I can help you or your student in any of these math subject areas.

Differential Equations

As an undergraduate major in mathematics, I took a course in Differential Equations, receiving an A. The next year, I was chosen by a Differential Equations professor to grade his students' papers. A year after that, I took a course in Theoretical Physics, which was basically a course in nonlinear partial differential equations.

Linear Algebra

I have several years of experience in linear algebra. I have taken an undergraduate course, a graduate level course, courses in ring/field/module theory (which heavily use linear algebra), courses in algebraic number theory (again, uses linear algebra), and more. On top of all that, I'm currently writing a master's thesis in an area of discrete geometry that relies heavily on linear algebra machinery.

Logic

In addition to being an aspiring mathematician (which is itself a constant exercise in logic), I have formally taken a few logic courses. I have taken a general introduction to logic, having learned about truth tables and, more generally, classical Boolean logic. Subsequently, I took a course in more obscure logics, including modal logic and temporal logic. On a closely related note, I have taken courses in set theory, Godel's incompleteness theorems, Turing machines/finite automata, and more.
