All of Meg’s current tutoring subjects are listed at the left. You can read more about Meg’s qualifications in specific subjects below.

Elementary (K-6th)

I received my Masters in Teaching in Elementary Education (K-8) and have been a substitute teacher in the Federal Way School District since May 2011. I have worked with students in the Resource Room, with ELL students and with Highly Capable students. I specialize in math, although I am comfortable in all subjects.

Grammar

I have been an online college instructor for 11 years. When I teach online, all of the communication between my students and me is written. The class I teach requires my students to write a weekly online video review which I grade not only for content, but also for grammar, spelling, and writing conventions. I am very experienced in proofreading and editing and am well-qualified in teaching others about grammar.

Microsoft Access

I have worked as a software instructor for almost two decades, working with Microsoft Access and teaching students how to run queries. I have designed databases using Access and have also designed reports. I can assist people with setting up databases, setting up queries, and designing reports.

Microsoft Excel

I have been an Excel user for over two decades and have taught Excel since 1994. I can teach you to become a more effective user of Excel by using little known shortcuts, formulas, functions, names and links. I can also teach you how to use Excel as a database by creating tables. Finally, I can show you how to use Excel to create graphic representations of your data (charts). Of course, I can also teach you the basics of Excel, starting from the beginning. I've taught beginning to advanced users and adapt my teaching style to my students. Excel is a very powerful program, but you need to let the program work for you. Let me help you discover the power of Excel!

Microsoft Outlook

I work with Microsoft Outlook on a daily basis. I am familiar with the email function of Outlook as well as the calendar function and the Contacts function. Having been a software instructor for almost two decades, I feel confident in my ability to teach this application, as it is one of the easier applications in the Microsoft Office Suite of programs.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I have taught PowerPoint for almost two decades in both community colleges and in the corporate world. I have created hundreds of PowerPoint presentations and as a teacher and a speaker, I am familiar with what constitutes a good presentation. A good presentation is a combination of your oral presentation and the PowerPoint presentation. The PowerPoint presentation is a tool to support your oral presentation, and should be designed as such. Many people do not understand this, and as a result, their PowerPoint presentations are not as effective as they could be. Let me show you how to create PowerPoint presentations that wow!

Microsoft Word

Do you need to become a better user of Word? Do you get frustrated with all of the features available to you? I can help! I have been a user/instructor of Word since 1994 and I too was kicking and screaming when version 2007 came around. But I too had to get out of the Dark Ages and have now been teaching version 2007 for several years. I can teach you many shortcuts to make you a more effective user. I can show you how to work with templates, styles, mail merge, sections, columns, tables, headers/footers, AutoText, creating a table of contents, creating an index, and much more!

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
