Career Development

Throughout my academic and professional career, I have served as a mentor for undergraduate and graduate students as they prepare for internship and employment opportunities.

I have been employed by the University of Washington, where I counseled students on internship applications and interview processes. During law school, I also served as Vice President of the Multicultural Law Student Association where my duties included reviewing cover letters for underclassmen and preparing them for job interviews. Post-graduate school, I developed my own business helping professionals proofread CV's and written applications. Many of the students and clients that I have assisted were hired for the positions that they applied for.

I have first-hand knowledge of what it takes to successfully complete a multi-leveled corporate interview, as I have interviewed with a number of firms, and was offered a position with one of the largest corporate law firms in downtown Seattle. Starting from the application, resume, and cover letter process, to phone interviews, call-backs, and the final multi-hour in-person interview, I am experientially equipped to advise others on how to calmly and confidently approach a career opportunity.

The following is a list of topics that I am qualified to address:

- Reviewing applications, resumes, and cover letters;
- Networking and maintaining employment connections;
- Conducting proper business etiquette;
- Alleviating nervousness and anxiety before an interview;
- Answering interview questions in an organized, direct, and memorable manner;
- Speaking clearly, confidently, and deliberately;
- Asking the right questions at the end of an interview;
- Following up with interviewers post-interview.

Law

Following undergraduate school, I took the LSATs and was accepted into the UW School of Law. I successfully graduated and passed the Bar Exam, and have been in active practice for the past several years. One of the highlights of my law school experience was being involved in a clinical program where I had the opportunity to teach local high school students for a full quarter about the Washington State legal system. The quarter culminated in a final debate competition judged by local legal professionals. I also teach law students how to hone their public speaking and mock trial skills in preparation for careers in litigation and trial advocacy.

Writing

I graduated with honors from the University of Washington (UW) in 2003 with a degree in English Literature and a major GPA of 3.8/4.0. During undergraduate school, I worked as a tutor for the UW Office of Minority Affairs Instructional Center - primarily teaching college students how to:

- Write academic essays;
- Analyze complex reading passages;
- Conduct and organize research; and
- Think critically about literary issues.

For my work as a tutor, I received the UW Excellence in Peer Tutoring Award. I was also named a Mary Gates Scholar for my research and writing abilities, and awarded the 2003 Best Senior Thesis Award from the UW English Department.

Projects that I have helped students and professionals with over the years include:

- Cover letters
- Resumes
- Graduate school applications
- Personal statements
- Essay exams
- Dissertation writing
- Academic essays
- Conversational Korean to English translations

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
