Dear Parents, Teachers, and other Educators,
My name is Mark. I am 23 years old and am currently enrolled at Cornish College of the Arts majoring in Performing Arts to complete my BFA.
For all of my educated life, I have excelled in the areas of writing and English. As a child, I was placed in advanced English classes, and remained in them for the rest of my elementary and secondary careers. In college thus far, I have completed all levels of English while receiving A's in all courses. I started at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, OR--focusing on an AA degree in theater with a second focus in business. After two years, I ventured to Los Angeles where I attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts--there I excelled in advanced Shakespearean literature as well as classic Greek and Roman theatre. I was also trained in syntax, dialects, and the International Phonetic Alphabet. The aforementioned courses from AADA in particular, broadened the depth of my training not only as an actor, but also as a student, making me an excellent candidate for tutoring. After graduating from the Academy with honors and an AA degree in theatre performance, I left LA in pursuit of further training with Cornish College and have been admitted as of this spring. My goal within the next three years is to finish my degree with honors at Cornish, intern with some local theatres, and tutor in English and writing so as to gain further experience as an educator and a student.
While I have not yet completed a Bachelor's degree, I have excellent references from all my teachers related to English, writing, and beyond. My grades in said courses are perfect and were earned through hard work, dedication, and a passion for learning. To add to my references, I worked as a tutor in the Academic Success Center at Bellevue College working in the writing lab. My job description was to assist students with correcting papers by giving them lessons in organization, structure, works citations, brainstorming, and much, much more. I am well versed with MLA, APA, and Chicago style formats should that fall into a category with which your student needs assistance. My lessons are to the point, and I am motivated to expand my services to the general public in the hopes that I may instruct a fellow student who is in need of some guidance from a fellow peer. This student would ideally be proficient in basic writing skills but be in need of a teacher who would instruct them on how to write effective papers, poems, and stories. This "ideal" candidate need not be a native speaker--in fact, I welcome students of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of education. The only thing I ask is that the student be a willing learner.
My goal as an educator, with regular lessons, is to bring a student's writing skills up 40% within two weeks, and 60% within a month. While writing in English has basic structure, grammar etc., this structure is limited with artistic expression, which is why being an actor and a tutor is very effective. My employer at Bellevue College believed that my outgoing personality, passion for learning, and vivacious spirit lent a helping hand in not only teaching students to become better writers, but also to instill a sense of pride in the works they created with my aid. I would like to be a "burning torch" for your student in need and put them on a path to success not only as a writer, but also as a speaker, extrovert, and goal-oriented human being.
If my expertise sounds like it would fulfill the needs of your student, please contact me for a free consultation. I would like to see a sample of their work and go over it with them in person for a half-hour session at their convenience. It will be during this time that I will introduce them to my style of tutoring as well as allow them to meet me as a fellow student educator. Thank you very much for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.
My references are available upon request as are my other contact details. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions regarding this ad.
Best wishes,
Mark
