Hi, my name is Katie. I am the type of tutor that will create stories, analogies, or visuals to help my students understand difficult concepts. I believe that every person learns a little differently and that it is very important for me to be receptive to my students, so that I can figure out how to help them learn in their own individual way. I believe helping a student understand themselves and how they learn is the key to creating a self sufficient student who is enthusiastic about learning throughout their life time.
I am a college graduate with a degree in Mathematics Education and I'm certified to teach mathematics in Washington State. I love math, and find it very easy to share my enthusiasm for mathematics with my students. During my student teaching, I spent many hours after school helping my 7th graders increase their understanding of mathematics in Pre-Algebra and Algebra. Before and after having my little boy, I tutored an 8th grader with dyslexia. We focused a lot on mathematics, but I helped her in all subject areas and with her organizational skills.
At this current time I am teaching mathematics part time at a small private school, all classes are one-to-one. I have been working at this position for a year and a half and love it, working with students one on one is a great way to really understand them and figure out the help they need to succeed. I feel very comfortable tutoring any subject of mathematics through Precalculus, but I'm willing to brush up on higher mathematics, such as Calculus, if need be. Feel free to send a message if you have questions for me.
