I'm an expert in two areas: writing and crafts.
Writing -
I'm a college English professor (DeVry Federal Way) with years of experience teaching composition, literature, and public speaking. I'm particularly experienced at providing one-on-one help to struggling writers at the college level. I can help with all stages of the writing process, from topic selection and research to drafting and organization to revision and proofreading. My goal is to help writers become confident drafting and editing their own work.
I can also provide tutoring for the SAT writing and reading sections. I lead an SAT review for high school students at DeVry, so I stay up to date on the structure and requirements of the test.
Crafts -
Do you have a hankering to knit or sew? I'm an experienced (and fun!) teacher in both crafts. I've taught knitting for Pacific Fabrics and Crafts, with consistently rave reviews from my students. I've taught sewing for the Quilting Loft and Bernina Northwest here in Seattle, and presented special classes and programs throughout Washington, Oregon, and Montana.
In knitting, I'm skilled with patterns and charts, lace, cables, colorwork, and more. I'm happy to teach absolute beginners, and I love to introduce more experienced knitters to new techniques. If you want to learn how to knit socks (or sweaters, or shawls, or whatever), or if you've gotten stuck in a project, I can help.
In the sewing world, I have experience with garments (including costuming and pattern alteration) and with quilting. I can teach you which way the sewing machine goes and how to deal with that crinkly pattern or interpret the instructions for that quilt you fell in love with.
My philosophy for teaching crafts is that they should be fun, so I focus on how to find the right way FOR YOU to do it. I'll tell you the official rules, then I'll tell you where you can bend them.
