Currently working as a special education teacher for Seattle Schools. Have experience teaching ELL, autism, ADHD, Dyspraxic, dysliexic, and general learning disorders as well as students who are simply struggling in reading or writing.

My philosophy for children is that learning must be fun. I integrate humor in my lessons constantly to keep students engaged. I can alter any lesson plan to accommodate different learning styles. I believe learning is a very individual thing and students shouldn't be expected to all learn the same way or at the same pace. Sometimes extra help is needed and that's what I'm here for.

I have been working as a tutor for over 30 years.

Dyslexia

I have a Masters Degree in Special Education Cross Categorical and am beginning my 15th year with Seattle Public Schools working with special education students. I have also worked with regular ed students who have some sort of disability or learning delay or for students who simply struggle in one or two subjects.

Many students I have worked with have had dyslexia. I worked for an entire school year working with a third grade girl with dyslexia. She was a non-reader when we began working together, but through a lot of patience and having her sound out words and read them out loud, she was reading at a high first grade level by the end of the school year, amazing all her teachers.

I am highly qualified to teach students with dyslexia.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certificated K-8 teacher currently working for Seattle Schools. I have many years experience tutoring and teaching at the elementary level. I can teach any subject at the elementary level but specialize in reading and writing.

English

I have been tutoring for more than 35 years and reading and writing are my specialty. I am a professional writer, writing regularly for a blog, and I have also written and self published a novel.

I have taught students from pre-k through college age and can help with creative writing as well as writing for essays, reports, etc.

I am a certificated K-8 teacher with a masters in Special Education.

ESL/ESOL

I am a certificated teacher in Seattle and have many years teaching students with limited English proficiency. I have also helped college students with limited English skills. I am a professional writer, writing frequently for a local blog, and can help with college papers as well as checking for proper grammar and punctuation and spelling.

Grammar

I currently write for a blog and during my recent status as a grad school student, I always got 100% on my papers particularly the sentence structure, grammar use and spelling. I have also written and self published a novel on Amazon and am working on a new novel. I have tutored students in writing for more than 35 years.

Phonics

I am a certificated K-8 teacher and also possess a Masters in Special Education. I have taught phonics many times, having done so most recently while working in a kindergarten class where many students were struggling readers. I work with students on letter recognition, letter sounds, and reading comprehension.

I am highly qualified to teach all aspects or reading including phonics.

Reading

I am a certificated K-8 teacher with a Masters Degree in Special Education. I have taught reading to students from elementary and even pre-kindergarten. I have taught third-graders in reading and kindergartners in word recognition and reading comprehension.

I have been tutoring for more than thirty years and can teach any learning style.

Special Needs

I am a certificated K-8 teacher and have a masters degree in Special Education cross categorical. I have worked in Seattle Schools for the last 14 years. During this time I have worked in an Asperger Inclusion program at John Rogers elementary. I have also worked for three years in a kindergarten inclusion program that served special education students as well as regular education students. Many of the special education students had autism. For the last six years I have worked in a self-contained special ed classroom with students who have moderate to severe autism as well as other disorders.

Subjects I have worked with students on include academics such as reading, writing, fine motor skills, math and science. I also worked on social skills. Recently I've worked with older students on vocational tasks such as sweeping floors, folding laundry and simple sorting or assembly skills. I have worked with individual students as well as small groups and larger groups. I began working with students with autism in 1983.

Besides autism I have worked with students with Downs and other chromosomal abnormalities. I have tutored students with ADHD, Dyspraxia and other learning disabilities. I began tutoring while I was still in high school over 30 years ago.

TOEFL

I have been teaching and tutoring students whose first language is not English. Recently I spent a summer teaching three young ladies from Korea how to speak English. Transformed My Grandson's Writing Skill — At the first parent/teacher conference we learned that my 10 year old grandson was struggling with writing. The teacher explained how he was at the top of his class in reading, math, and science, but when it came to writing he was way below in his grade level. He "hated" all things writing and would simply choose not complete the work. His teacher was frustrated and he was starting to not want to ...
