I graduated summa cum laude from Boston University in 2013, and have been working close to full time as a tutor ever since. My major was in biology, but I find most of my students these days in math. I am happy to work with anyone from middle school through college, including adult learners and children with special needs — I have experience with students of all backgrounds and learning styles.

While at Boston University, I worked for two years as a peer tutor at the Educational Resource Center. Until my move to Seattle, I had been working as a tutor at the Math Learning Center of Prince George's Community College, near Washington DC. In these structured settings I gained a good deal of formal training, experience, and range with respect to the types of students I have worked with. My success at each job has always been founded in enthusiasm for my subjects, patience, and commitment to understanding the specific needs of my students.

Please feel free to contact me with questions or to arrange for tutoring. I look forward to meeting you!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I received an 800 on the Mathematics subject SAT, as well as a 5 on the Calculus BC AP exam. I continued on to take linear algebra, multi-variable calculus, and statistics in college.

Algebra 2

I received an 800 on the Mathematics subject SAT, as well as a 5 on the Calculus BC AP exam. I continued on to take linear algebra, multi-variable calculus, and statistics in college.

Biology

In May 2013 I graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in Biology. My studies included general biology, genetics, physiology, evolution, botany, and ecology, and my senior thesis was published in the American Journal of Botany.

Chemistry

As a Biology major in college, I took two semesters of General Chemistry and one of Organic Chemistry, earning high scores in all three courses.

Ecology

I majored in Ecology at Boston University (completed 2013), and my senior thesis was published in the American Journal of Botany.

Genetics

I graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in Biology; this required that I complete a genetics requirement. I did this by taking two genetics classes during my semester abroad at University College London; Introduction to Genetics and Genetic Systems & Models. Additionally, I took further courses at Boston University that assumed detailed knowledge of genetics, including Evolution and Animal Behavior.

Geometry

I received an 800 on the Math SAT II, and a 5 on the Calculus BC AP exam.

I took multi-variable calculus, linear algebra, and statistics in college.

I have tutored many students in physics and economics, frequently focusing on the mathematics underlying the subjects.

Physics

I have worked as a tutor for students in AP high school physics for two years. I took two semesters of calculus-based physics at Boston University, receiving high marks.

To do this we'll need to convert both 9 2/5 and 8 4/5 from mixed numbers like they are now to improper fractions.   Since the denominator of 9 2/5 is in 5ths, we will have to convert 9 into 5ths. 9*5=45, so 9 = 45/5.  We still need to account for the additional 2/5: 45/5 +...
