I'm a Seattle native, who enjoys good coffee, the beautiful outdoors and laid-back atmosphere here. I had a great experience attending Knox College, a small, liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, a small town in the middle of corn fields that was completely different from the city I grew up in. I've always enjoyed writing, along with having wonderful professors; so I decided to major in Creative Writing. During college, I fell in love with the Spanish language after studying abroad in Argentina and Spain; so I double majored in Creative Writing and Spanish.
During my college years, I was an after-school volunteer at the Carver Center, tutoring grades 1st through 8th. After graduation, I received a position as a year-long AmeriCorps volunteer at the Youth Tutoring Program, serving underrepresented and at-risk youth. There, I tutored students in grades 1st through 12th in subjects ranging from Spanish and Language Arts to Elementary Math and Science.
Volunteering has been a passion of mine. After AmeriCorps, I spent a year as an international volunteer in Peru at the Fe y Alegria School in Lima, as the Art Teacher, for grades 1-3. I taught my classes entirely in Spanish, and not only grew close to the students, but the teachers, parents and community as well. While in Lima, I also began a small English conversation class with people from around the community and helped tutor in English. My year in Peru was one of the best experiences I have ever had; I was able to experience a completely different culture and meet amazing people!
My teaching and tutoring style is more hands-on, interactive activities and games where the students can not only learn but have fun too! I really enjoy tutoring because one of my favorite things is to see students excited about learning! I look forward to hearing from you. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions!
