My master's degree in economics gives me a background in statistics and decision theory. I have taken coursework in game theory, probability and statistics, risk, information economics, and computer simulation. I have used this background as a research assistance at the financial firm Russell Investment Group.
I have tutored students in calculus for AP (both AB and BC) coursework as well as collegiate level calculus through multivariate. I have taken real analysis and graduate level topology as well as some work in differential and partial differential equations.
While an undergraduate, I studied Differential Equations for a semester and received and A. The next semester, I continued with Partial Differential Equations and received and A-. I have also studied Real Analysis (both univariate and multivariate) and received an A in the subject, giving me a theoretical grounding of the subject. While a graduate student, I studied Macroeconomics, which extensively uses advanced differential equations to model intertemporal choice problems. In these macroeconomics courses, all of my work was graded as A quality.
While an undergraduate, I studied Abstract Algebra for 1 year and received an A in my coursework. I also studied computer science for two years and again received an A in my coursework. I have studied difference equations moth in my undergraduate mathematics work and graduate economics work. I have 2 published papers using applied discrete mathematics in the Journal of Undergraduate Mathematics and its Applications.
I have completed the first year econometric sequence for doctoral students at the University of Oregon. Subjects spanned probability and statistical theory, basic econometric models, and applications of those models to real world problems.
As an undergraduate, I have studied 4 semester of computer science, receiving A-level grades. My coursework included Computer Science I and II, Optimization, and Math Modeling. I have worked for 1 summer as a research intern at Russell Investment Group where my duties involved extensive programming. My primary computer skills are in JAVA, MatLab, Mathematica, and Stata, with the ability to pick up new programming languages quickly.
I have completed linear algebra at the undergraduate level with an A- and two semesters of undergraduate abstract algebra, covering vector spaces, groups, rings, fields, and some algebraic topology. I'm confident that I can tutor students in linear algebra.
I have had six, proof-based math courses, including a geometry course that served as an introduction to logic as part of its content. I have also had two semesters of computer science, so I am able to teach and work on proofs and logic.
I have completed A-level coursework in statistical theory and probably through the first year graduate level. In addition to typical probability and statistics courses, this includes econometric work on time series, stochastic modeling, Markov chain theory, and Bayesian statistics.
I have worked with high school, undergraduate, and graduate students at various levels of skill.
