I have taught English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) for over twenty years, in language school and university, in Japan and Seattle. I have a master’s degree in TESOL from Temple University Japan.
Recently, I have taught in one-on-one settings in Seattle. My lessons are based on student’s needs, so I consult with them (at no cost) before starting on a program. Recently, I have given instruction in pronunciation, grammar, and composition.
Lessons in pronunciation are structured around practice of sound units in North American English (NAE) and the study of speech features such as linking, intonation and stress. Students should understand that everyone has an accent and that there is no need or possibility to achieve “perfection” in the target language.
In writing instruction, I offer help in organizing material, outlining and writing drafts. Also, we look at word choice, style, and formatting of academic and business English.
Grammar instruction is based on systematic review of the verb system, including tense, mood, voice and aspect.
