I am a well educated, talented musician who is new to the Seattle, WA area. I am looking for talented trombone and low brass students who wish to take their musical talent and knowledge to the next level. I can teach any style, from Classical to Commercial to Jazz. Also willing to tutor in music history and music theory.

I hold a Doctorate in Music Performance at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Having studied with members of the Chicago Symphony, I believe I have knowledge to offer which would be tough to find anywhere else. I also have a Masters Degree from the University of North Texas in Trombone Performance with a minor in Jazz Studies, while in attendance at UNT I played with the internationally recognized 1 o'clock Lab Band. My Bachelor's Degree is from Western Michigan University where I double majored in Music Education and Music Performance.

My prior tutoring experience is with college, high school, and middle school students, all of which have had great success. I have tutored many All-State trombone and low brass students, had a number of high school students go on to major in music at various universities, and one college student who won the University Concerto Competition.

I believe I have quite a bit of knowledge to offer students of any playing ability.

If you wish to learn more about me, feel free to contact me.

Music History

I have a thorough knowledge of music history having taken a large number of graduate and doctoral level classes in this subject area, as well as a broad spectrum undergraduate course covering music history. I have taken specific courses in 20th Century, Romantic Period, Classical Period, Baroque Period, Renaissance Period, and Medieval Period, as well as specific courses on the music of Richard Wagner and Gustav Mahler. As well as knowledge of the history of Western Classical music, I am also well versed in Jazz History and 20th century contemporary music.

Music Theory

I am well versed in music theory, having easily passed the undergraduate, masters level, and doctoral level entrance exams at some of the most prestigious music schools in the country. I also use music theory in my every day teaching of jazz theory and improvisation for instrumental instruction. I also have a working knowledge of Baroque Counterpoint (ie: J.S. Bach).

I hold a Doctorate of Music in Trombone Performance from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. I have had a number of very successful students over the past 10 years, including quite a few All-State students in North Carolina, Illinois, and Indiana. I have also taught students who have gone on to major in music at various 4 year state universities. As a performer, I have been a part of ensembles who have been nominated for 3 Grammy Awards, as well as having won 5 Downbeat Awards.
