Hello! My name is Mike and I am currently a student at the University of Washington, double-majoring in mathematics and electrical engineering. Besides mathematics, I am also very happy to offer tutoring lessons in history, geography, chemistry and Chinese. I look forward to working with you!
I think that the most important thing a teacher should do is to make class interesting for the student. From my experiences in the classroom with boring teachers, I find that I am most easily demotivated when the teacher does not care about the students' opinion. As a tutor, I want to give as much session time as possible to the student airing his/her thoughts on a particular problem. If the student treats me like a friend, then the learning process will be more enjoyable and productive.
A success story:
When I was a freshman in university, I took an introductory economics class. There was a girl in the class, who, like me, had no prior knowledge of the subject. While I understood the course material on my own after some effort, she was struggling on the weekly tests and came to me for help. We quickly identified the problems she was having and shortly after, she was scoring 20 percentage points higher on the tests.
