With great energy, enthusiasm, and empathy, I have amassed a great deal of diverse teaching experience. I earned my M.Ed. from the University and I am endorsed in Special Education for ages birth-21. I also received my B.S. from The University of Washington in Speech and Hearing Sciences.
Subjects I have taught include:
k-6 -- English (primarily grammar, spelling, vocabulary and composition), elementary math (up to algebra 1), elementary science, health, and social/communication skills.
8th grade + -- English (composition, vocabulary, grammar, and spelling), careers, SAT/ACT prep (English portion), Pacific Northwest History, world religions, cultural anthropology, psychology, sociology, interpersonal communications, and health. I also have experience helping students complete college applications (with a high success rate of acceptance).
My career experiences have given me the opportunity to work with a diverse student population including individuals who have ADD/HD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Tourette's, OCD, anxiety disorders or mood disorders such as depression or bipolar disorder, eating disorders and more.
My passion has been in not only helping these individuals to strengthen academic skills but also to develop and implement communications and other self-help strategies to foster independence and improve overall functioning.
I also have experience coaching students, teachers, families, and employers to understand disabilities and accommodations that may help improve skills across settings.
Currently I am working part-time as a consultant to do curriculum development and teacher presentations for a local non-profit organization. This position allows me to have a very flexible schedule.
