My name is Jake, and I am a new resident of the Seattle area. I attended the University of Montana, where I received degrees in both History and Political Science. I recently completed the necessary coursework for teacher licensure and am set to student teach in the Seattle area next fall. I have held two positions as a teacher's assistant and have completed 40 credits towards my Masters in Education. When my student teaching is completed I will be certified to teach History, Government, Social Studies, and Economics at the middle and high school levels.
While I feel that I have the education to justify my employment as a tutor, my ability to interact with students on a personal and instructional level is my greatest asset. I firmly believe that relatability, humor, and patience are the strongest characteristics an educator can possess. An effective tutor must understand that students who need tutoring are learning this information for the first time and are not necessarily poor students. They simply need the information to be presented in a different format. It is the role of the tutor to create a platform for concepts to be relatable, simple, and hopefully fun! I look forward to talking with students and parents to see if I am the right fit for their situation.
