Hi!

I am a Washington state certified teacher (preK-8th grade) with dual endorsements in elementary education and ESL. I have years of experience in working with children and adults who need help in reading, math, writing, and English as a second language (ESL).

I have been tutoring students/adults for about three years now, many of whom have special needs (e.g., dyslexia, ADHD, Aspergers) or a combination of needs (e.g., special needs and English language development). I am available days, evenings, and weekends and conveniently come to your home. Grammar

I teach grammar within the content of teaching reading and writing, using a discovery method that helps students to understand and retain its meaning. I am a certified K-8 teacher with a second endorsement in English as a second language. I am trained to teach!

Reading

I am a Washington State certified K-8th grade teacher with a second endorsement in English as a Second Language. I teach reading with an approach that covers the five important elements of reading: fluency, phonics/phonemic awareness, sight/high frequency word recognition, vocabulary, and comprehension. If your child is struggling with reading, my approach to teaching can help him/her succeed.

Writing

I'm a certified elementary/ESL teacher with experience in literacy developmnet. For writing, I use a program that takes students through the stages of developing successful writing skills in all genres of writing (e.g., report, expository, narrative, etc).

Spelling

As a trained and certified k-8th grade teacher, I teach a balanced approach to reading, spelling, and vocabulary building that includes phonics in conjunction with the four other essential elements to becoming an effective reader/speller: phonemic awareness, fluency, comprehension, and practice in sight recognition of high frequency words. If your child is experiencing reading and/or spelling challenges, I can give him/her the boost they need to becoming a better reader/speller.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified k-8th grade teacher with dual endorsements in elementary education and English as a Second Language. (Trained to teach!) I tutor mostly in reading, language development, and writing, but can tutor in all elementary subjects. In conjunction with effective curriculum, I use a supportive approach to teaching English that includes the use of music, visuals, and gestures, which not only makes English comprehensible for beginning learners, but also creates a non-threatening environment in which to learn for children.
