Elementary Instructor Available for Private Tutoring

I have worked for the Puyallup School District since 2007 as an ELO, Title 1, and Resource Room educator.

Put my experience and district resources to work for you and your student. I am qualified to tutor and homework assist in all subject areas, as well as helping your child develop good study habits, test taking skills, listening comprehension, or Kindergarten Readiness Skills. As a non-math scholar myself, teachers and students have found me to be particularly adept at identifying where students are stuck, and how to un-stick them! I prefer to meet at a public library, but am willing to negotiate another setting. I am available as a short-term tutor to work with student on a particular assignment, report, science project; or long-term, to identify strengths and weaknesses, develop and implement an intervention plan with follow-up assessments. If I assign homework, expect it to involve caregiver as well as student!

Reading

Reading fluency and comprehension requires learning decoding skills, vocabulary development and creating a love of reading... (Because there is no substitute for practice, practice, practice!) My work with your student will involve all three of these components.

Elementary Math

I have worked in the schools with kindergarten through 6th grade general education math curriculum for 5 years, as well as special ed. and extended learning programs.

Elementary (K-6th)

I graduated from Cornell University, with a 3.6 GPA in Human Development and Family Studies. After several years in the adolescent social work field, I was a stay-at-home mom for two children for 12 years. For the past 5 years I have worked in the Puyallup School District as an educator for K-6 students in the following programs: Title 1, Extended Learning Opportunities, and Resource Room. I have taught/tutored students in all subject areas, including improving listening and study skills.

Phonics

I believe in teaching both reading and spelling by using phonemic and syllabic methods. I have taught/tutored students in the Puyallup School Districtin all subject areas.

Study Skills

If lesson planning is needed there will be additional time charged. Alternatively, tutoring time can be decreased to 45 minutes to maintain the set hourly rate.
