Hello students and parents!
First off, welcome to the wonderful world of tutoring. Secondly, I am running a special group (2 or more people) rate for the month of May to June: 4 weeks of pre-scheduled group classes (20 hours) for $350 per person. This is less than $20/hour! Sign up before June 30, and the rate will be good for 3 months after payment.
You, as the student, will receive quality instruction along with assistance in becoming a responsible learner, in other words, you will also learn how to learn. I take this approach because I will not always be sitting beside you in a tutoring capacity. You need to acquire the skills to do whatever you want to do better, on your own.
So, go ahead...ask me the most important question you are thinking right this moment..."Why should I choose YOU over all other tutors listed here? Here are my top 5 descriptive adjectives about me: Dedicated, passionate, intelligent, patient, and enthusiastic. Now, five more words to describe my teaching styles: Creative, flexible, helping, interactive, and fun! Next, five words that describe my values: Professionalism, sincerity, honesty, respect, and results-driven. Finally, those five words that describe how I facilitate making YOU a better learner: Communication, responsibility, persistence, discipline and humor.
You could stop here for now, as the above write up is the short version. Read on, if you would like to know more about me.
I thoroughly enjoy being an ongoing learner myself via my roles as a trainer, counselor, and mentor for parents, students, and teachers. I have been an educator for more than 15 years. I was most recently nominated for the Distinguished Faculty Award at Pierce College, Puyallup, as well as receiving the Outstanding ESL Teacher Award at Cypress Community College (NOCCCD) in southern California. I have been teaching ELL-ESL to hundreds of students from all over the world. Part of my instructional topics continue to include the four language skill areas (listening, speaking, reading, writing), vocabulary, idioms, grammar, transitional education, public speaking, organizational skills, student success strategies (test-taking, time-management, stress management, note-taking, learning and personality styles), and technology tools.
I have two Master's degrees. One is in the Rehabilitative Counseling field, and my other Master's degree is in Teaching English as a Second Language and Bilingual Education. I have taught ESL and Computer Education extensively throughout southern California, as well as, in Western Washington at various community colleges.
In reference to my own hobbies, I enjoy gardening, cooking, baking, interior decorating, making mosaic-tiled mirrors, traveling, surfing the net for new ideas, scrap-booking, reading, movies, hiking, camping, biking, and entering athletic races such as triathlons and half-marathons.
It is my goal to help each and every one of my students not only with the skills needed to learn a subject and/or language, but also to instill in them, a passion for life-long learning.
And even if you choose not to hire me as your tutor ... please carry this message with you: "There are always two sides to every coin. Choose the positive side every morning you wake up. Choose to take risks and explore. And above all, choose to do your personal best."
