When teaching how you should always take the time to explain the why. Simply going through the motions is not learning for the student. Explain, with real life examples, why the knowledge will make a difference for the better for the student. By letting the student know how the knowledge will improve them you create a real desire for the student to learn the subject. Make it fun by allowing the student to suggest how they will be able to use the knowledge and then applying it to that and several similar situations.

I taught for 7 years at the University of Portland before moving to Seattle for a better paying teaching position. In December of 2000 I was in an automobile accident and survived a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). I am much better now and ready to teach again. My 7 years at the University of Portland have given me a lot of experience with one on one learning.
