I love history with science as a close second. I am writing a novel in partnership with a college buddy in California. We have a finished rough draft of an epic sci-fi story in submission to agents and publishers, and am excited to have accomplished that. I definitely can help you with grammar, style, sentence structure, and word meanings.
I never was a certified school teacher, but I tutor my 15 year-old son at home in writing, reading and math. He has a slight learning disability, but he shares my love of history and science and he is getting A's and B's in his work. He loves school and learning new things, and I am very proud of his hard work. I also helped coach three of his little league baseball teams, which was very fun for both of us. We learned a lot about baseball from the other coaches.
Much of what I learned came from self-teaching, whether it is books or asking for help from friends or experts. I believe that if you really love a subject or want to learn about anything, there are a lot of resources out there, you just have to ask questions and search around. When I was a kid, we didn't have the internet. Do I ever love being able to look up things instantly instead of travelling to the library and plowing through encyclopedias!
I can look up anything, from facts on Wikipedia to shop manuals for fixing appliances, to repairing my own car--all online and fast.
I designed my own Bachelor's Degree program in ancient history and religions at the University of Oregon, where I graduated with Honors. Years ago my wife and I had a daycare business, so I learned to work with and teach preschool kids. Two of our daycare boys went on to become Eagle Scouts, which is something my wife and I are very proud of. Some are now going to universities, which makes me feel old, but proud!
I look forward to helping you learn many things and have fun doing it!
