I am currently a teacher with Tacoma Public Schools. I have been teaching full time for 5 years. Before my position with Tacoma, I was a substitute teacher with several school districts in the North Sound, as well as with Tacoma and North Thurston school district in Lacey, WA. I was also a tutor at Sylvan Learning Centers in Lynwood, Wa & Snohomish, WA teaching elementary & middle level writing, reading, and math. I tutored at Sylvan for a year and a half until I moved to the Tacoma area. I currently teach 8th grade language arts. Previously I taught 6th grade language arts and social studies.
I earned my Master's in Education, with a focus on curriculum and instruction from the University of Washington-Tacoma in Tacoma, WA in 2010. While at UW-T I also earned my Washington State Professional Teaching Certificate and my middle level humanities endorsement, which led to me being highly qualified in language arts and social studies for middle school. I received my teaching certification from Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA in 2003 in elementary education (K-8). I received my Bachelor's degree from Washington State University in Pullman, WA in 2000.
As a tutor, I will have the opportunity to provide individualized instruction at the student's level. In my classroom I use data such as MSP scores, other reading assessments, and writing assessments to guide my instruction. I base my instruction and assessments on state standards, which will better prepare students to be successful on the Washington State Measure of Student Progress.
