I am a graduate of the University of Washington. I have a Master's Degree in Elementary Education and Professional Certification from the State of Washington. Professionally, I stay current with WA State standards, best practices, and current educational research. With more than 9 years of teaching experience in Kindergarten through eighth grades, I have a diverse background in supporting students with all ability levels.
I have experience with diverse learning styles: struggling students, gifted, students on IEPs, students learning with dyslexia, and ELL students. My teaching style is to assess where students are, set goals with them (and parents), and then plan how we will get there. I'm firm, encouraging, and always positive. I believe all students have potential. All students can learn; it's up to the educator to find how to plan and guide students in meeting his or her potential. My students learn concrete and fun strategies for success in reading, writing, math, and organization/study skills. Many of these study skills are applicable across all subject areas.
