Hi, I'm Jakob. I'm a recent graduate from Washington State University with a degree in mathematics. I'm passionate about mathematics, and excited to help people understand it. For the last three years of my time there, the Mathematics Department hired me as a tutor for their algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus students. As a mathematics major, I'm also very familiar with physics, and took the engineering-difficulty physics my last semester and aced it. I'm passionate about sciences and took chemistry, although it wasn't required, and the biology major-level twin biology courses. Last summer I worked on a project called MMRE (Making Mathematical Reasoning Explicit) where I helped grade school teachers understand mathematics better and how to teach it.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Photography

I have taken two years of photography courses where I studied black and white film photography, rolling my own film, developing my own film, making prints, and studying composition. I then studied digital photography and photo editing over another two years. I have experience with a variety of lenses and understand the underlying mechanics of photography. I do some freelance photography and sell prints.
