Hi! My name is Charles and I’m a published author who takes great joy and pride in mentoring students of any age in a number of subjects with, of course, my passion being the well-written word.
I attended a private school from kindergarten through twelfth grade and went on to major in English at Macalester College, University of Minnesota and the University of Delaware. In England I studied English History, Architecture and Creative Writing with Short Schools, Ltd.
After college I started in broadcasting, radio and TV, and then went on to work in film and video as a soundman and cameraman and later as scriptwriter. My film and video career has taken me all around the world; Canada, Mexico, England, France, Italy, Monaco, Portugal, Greece, Senegal, and Mauritania, and allowed me to work with some of the most exciting and creative people on the planet. I have studied with Judith Guest (“Ordinary People”), Rebecca Hill (“A Killing Time in St. Cloud”), Gary Braver (“Tunnel Vision”, “Skin Deep”), and screenplay construction with David S. Freeman (“Beyond Structure”).
Scriptwriting and editing and completion of my first novel (with the sequel on the way) gives me a unique advantage when working with students on reading and writing assignments, especially longer projects.
Most of all, I believe improving a student's study skills and work ethic are as important as completing assignments and think they should be an integral part of the learning process. Around the core of reading and writing I include additional skill sets including public speaking, business education, basic mathematics (algebra and geometry) and usage of Microsoft Word 2010 and Excel.
Each student is unique, and I endeavor to match my efforts to their goals with patience and humor and professionalism.
