My name is Tom. Recently, I worked as a Content Developer for the English learning website TalkEnglish.com. Also, I'm a teacher and tutor with experience working with exchange students at Seattle University in the Science and Engineering program on their English and presentation skills. I finished my graduate internship at CISC (Chinese Information and Service Center) in downtown Seattle in March 2013.
I finished my undergraduate in 2009 with a B.A in English and a minor in Philosophy. I have extensive experience working with Chinese students and adults. I've taught in China twice: the first time for one year in 2009-10 and the second time for the summer of 2011 in a city called Zhangjiagang in Jiangsu province. Currently, I'm an intern at CISC in the Seattle Chinatown, a non-profit organization for Chinese immigrants to receive educational support and language training.
I've studied French in high school (3 years) and in college (4 quarters) and have a basic understanding of it. I also speak some Mandarin Chinese.
My areas of concentration are in writing, comprehension, vocabulary, and communication in English with TESOL students and adults. As an English major, I've studied persuasive writing, essay formats, argumentative writing, fiction and academic prose. In addition, I can teach first year college French or high school first and second year.
I consider myself caring, creative and willing to experiment with individual learning styles and needs. Hopefully, we can work together to achieve your goals.
